** INTRODUCTION **********************************************************
Please read this section if you are a new poker player or this is your
first time from EfNet or DalNet. Let me be very explicit in saying
that
playing poker on the UnderNet channels #poker and #poker2 is NOT an
inherent
right, it is a privilege. If you abuse this privilege by breaking
the rules
in this manual, the privilege will be removed. It's a really
easy concept.
I make the rules, you play by the rules. If you don't wish to
play by my
rules, you may find someplace else to play.
You are reading this manual because a keyword is required to make an
account to play poker. The reason a keyword is required is to
assure that
you read the manual, and you are familiar with the basic mode of play,
and
of course, the rules. If you give the keyword to another prospective
player
so that the player does NOT have to read this manual, you will be banned.
Also, using the keyword to create an account in the public channel,
or using
the keyword in the public channel in such a way as to let others know
it is
the keyword is a bannable offense.
At the end of this manual you will find a list of bannable offenses.
In addition to these, please remember that excessive profanity, flaming,
harassment, netsex, unsolicited distribution of any offensive materials,
distribution of warez, or promotion of illegal activity will not be
tolerated
on the poker channels. We are just there to have fun and play
a friendly
game of poker. Please respect this.
The UnderNet Poker channels are run in a different manner than the
EfNet Poker and DalNet MoPoker channels. This is how UnderNet
is handled.
There are two channels, #poker and #poker2. You will have only
ONE account
that will be used on both channels. Both channels will use the
SAME bank
account money for players, so no matter which channel you play in,
you will
always have all your hard earned monies to play with. It is ILLEGAL
to be
playing in one channel while in the waiting queue on the other channel,
or
to be in the queue on both channels at the same time. Please
don't do it.
It is legal to be in the channel you are not playing or waiting in,
but if this results in the slowing of either game you will be asked
to leave
the channel you are not playing in. Whether or not it is slowing
the games is
determined by the poker cop(s). If a cop asks you to leave, then
do so.
The games known as xxx/fold,
where you must either open with the
xxx amount or fold your hand (no checking allowed) are NOT allowed
on
the UnderNet Poker channels.
Check raising IS acceptable on the #poker channels. Harassment
of
people who use this strategy is NOT acceptable, and will be treated
like
any other type of harassment.
Harassment of Poker Cops will not be tolerated. If you have a
complaint about a cop, mail me with the name of the cop, the date,
time,
and channel on which the problem occurred. If the Cop has behaved
badly
I will deal with the problem.
Money will not be transferred between players. When a player reaches
1,000,000 the game will be reset, and all players will start over.
The top
player of each "round" will be entered in the UnderNet Poker Hall of
Fame.
The top list in each channel is maintained separately, so if you want
to be on the top list in both channels, then you have to play in both
channels.
** GENERAL INFORMATION ****************************************************
PokerBot (PBot) is an irc bot that moderates a poker game with 2 to
6 users.
It is based on standard 5-card draw poker.
All commands to pbot which are typed in the public channel
must be
preceeded with p. Examples are 'p bet' 'p fold'
or 'p discard 2 3 4'.
Note that you can do /msg PBot <command> to avoid flooding
the channel.
Some commands like 'show' and 'status' have private replies
only. A
summary of commands can be viewed by using:
'/msg PBot help commands'
If playing in #poker2 you will need to replace the nick
PBot with PBot2.
If a person sits idle in the channel for 10 minutes, PBot
will kick him
off the channel. This is nothing to get upset about.
It does not mean
that you are banned. You may join the channel again
within 1 minute.
To prevent this from happening, say something on the channel
every 5
minutes or so, so that PBot knows you are alive.
Inactive accounts are automatically deleted after 60 days
of inactivity.
If you expect to go away for more than 60 days, you may
request that
your account be suspended to avoid having it deleted after
60 days.
PROGRESSION OF THE POKER GAME:
- A round consists of ante, initial bets, discarding cards, and final
bets.
- The ante cost is 100. You're out if you can't meet this ante.
- Initial bets can all be zero. (i.e., no one bets anything).
- If you are broke (i.e., no money), there is a limit of 50 that you
are
given to play. If you exceed this limit, you can see the
cards and
simply pay nothing.
- Bets are done in order of slot position. "Around the Table",
so to speak.
- Discarding cards is done in random order. A selection can't
be undone.
- In Final bets, if no one makes a bet (ie. everyone checks), then
the cards
of all players still "in" will be shown and the highest hand
wins.
- During the game, folding can be done anytime except during discarding
(before a discard).
- If a player loses all of his money, he will be exempted from play
for
a period of time. This time increases for every time a
player bankrupts.
When he is allowed back into the game, he will be given 'new'
money to play
with. If there are people in the waiting queue when a
player bankrupts,
then the player is allowed to join back into the queue without
a wait.
Also, after banking on one channel, it is ok to go play immediately
on
the other channel, as long as you are not still waiting from
a previous
bankrupt on that channel.
- Play time may be limited. In this case, your time in one seat
is limited.
When your time runs out, you may immediately rejoin into the
game, or into
the waiting queue if others were waiting when your time ran
out. To check
how much time you or another player has left, use the "timer"
command.
POKER HAND RANKINGS (high to low):
Straight Flush (five cards in one suit in consecutive numerical order)
4-of-a-kind (four cards of the same numerical value)
Full House (basically a pair and three of a kind in the same hand [9
9 9 3 3])
Flush (all five cards in the same suit, but not consecutive numerical
order)
Straight (all five cards in consecutive numerical order, not of same
suit)
3-of-a-kind (three cards of the same numerical value)
2 pairs (two cards each of two separate numerical values)
1 pair (two cards of the same numerical value)
nothing (high card).
If 2 players have essentially the same hand (i.e., a pair of Kings,
a flush,
a full house, etc.), the winner is determined by the cards of highest
numerical value. If both have a pair of kings, then the next
highest card
(the kicker) is considered. If both players have a queen, then
the next
card down in both hands is considered. If both hands are exactly
the same
numerical values (K K Q 7 4) then the pot is split between the players.
Suit
is never the determining factor in who wins a hand in this game.
BASIC CHANNEL TERMINOLOGY
Bank - Bankruptcy. When a player loses all his money.
Boat - see Full Boat.
COPs - (C)hannel (O)perators of (P)oker. These are people chosen
by the
manager to keep order on the channel.

having any problems that are not
explained in the manual. They can
access information on player bans,
and yes, they can and will suspend
or ban players who commit bannable
offenses.
Farm - This refers to a player betting all of his money at one time.
Keep
in mind that farmers often bank.
;-)
Flood - See FLOODING in the Bannable Offenses section.
Force - Refers to forcing a player out of the game using the forceout
command.
Full Boat - The same thing as Full House described in POKER HAND RANKINGS.
Hand - This can either refer to the cards one has been dealt, or one
round
of play as described in PROGRESSION
OF THE POKER GAME.
Kicker - The highest card that is not counted in the value of the hand
P1 or P2 - Refers to channels #poker and #poker2

** POKER COMMANDS ***********************************************************
There are several commands which are required to play the game.
Please
read and understand these commands BEFORE you attempt to play the game.
The commands you MUST know before you begin to play:
JOIN BET CALL RAISE FOLD DISCARD QUIT
** DESCRIPTIONS OF THE POKER COMMANDS ***************************************
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ANTE
- This command is used to pay the ante
at the beginning of the hand
if the player does not have
autoante set to 'Yes' in his setup.
The game cannot proceed
until all players have anted, so PLEASE
set your setup to 'Yes.'
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
BET [#]
- Bet an amount #. If the current
bet is less than the amount you
bet, it is assumed that
you are trying to raise the current bet by
the difference. To
check, bet 0.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CALL
- This command allows you to match the
current highest bet. This
command can only be used if another player has already bet more
than 0.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CARDS
- Shows you your cards.
(i.e. -PBot2- Your cards:
1) 5-D 2) 5-C 3) 2-D 4) J-D
5) 2-H)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
COPS
- Displays the list of poker Gods and
cops.
All cops can help you with
the following:
- Start a poker bot
- Release an account flagged as being used (see the FAQ section)
- tell you why a user is banned
Only level 1 and 2 cops
can:
- ban/unban a user
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CREATE
- Creates a new player account.
The proper syntax is:
/msg pbot
create <keyword>
The keyword may be found
elsewhere in this manual. The keyword is
hidden somewhere in the
text. After creating an account, to join the
game, follow the instructions
under the JOIN command. When you create
an account, PBot will generate
a random 6 character password. Write
it down, along with your
account number.
**********************************************************************
* NOTE: Any player found
with 2 accounts will be banned, so *
* be certain you don't have an
account before creating another. *
* To check if you have an account
already, see the LOOK command. *
**********************************************************************
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEAL
- Begins a new hand by dealing the cards.
This command may only be
used after the completion
if the previous hand (round).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DISCARD [card #] [card #] [card #] [card #]
- Discards card #1, #2, etc. See CARDS
command. (Maximum of 4 cards)
(i.e., p discard 2
4 5 To keep all your cards: p discard 0)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOLD
- Folds your cards, removing you from
this hand of play. When you
fold, you lose any money
already bet in this round. This does not
remove you from the game.
You will be dealt new cards in the next
round, unless you have bankrupted
or can't pay the ante.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
FORCEOUT <nick | slot #>
- Forces the player in the slot specified
out of the game. This is
only done if two separate
players use the forceout command. Please
Please use the REMIND command
before you force a player out.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
JOIN <account number> [password]
- Join the game into the first available
empty slot, or the waiting
queue if all seats are taken.
To start an account, find the keyword
mentioned in this manual,
then use the CREATE command. Going into
the poker channel and typing
"p join" will NOT start an account. When
you get an account number,
type "/msg pbot join ### <password>"
(### = your account number).
Your account number is the same for both
poker channels. Do
not request an account for each channel. You can
play under any nick and
from any IRC access account at any time.
* Note: Works in private only (i.e.
"/msg pbot join 227 mypass")
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
LASTSEEN <nick>

a user. When you join the
game, you will be informed
if you have notes. After you have read
the notes, they will be
deleted.
Examples on #poker (PBot):

/msg pbot note read
- To read without being in the game
/msg pbot note read mypasswrd

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
PASSCHANGE [new_password]
- Changes the current password into
new_password. You must be playing
to perform this command.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUIT
- Vacate the seat. This removes
you from the current game. You
must use the JOIN command
to get back into the game.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
RAISE <#>
- See the bet and raise the current
bet by amount #.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
REJOIN <account number> [password]
- Takes control of the game from the
specified player with the matching
account number. Used
in case your process/server freezes and you wish
to continue playing under
a different nick.
* Note: Use this in private only (i.e.
"/msg pbot rejoin 227 mypass")
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMIND
- Beeps the player(s) whose turn it
is to bet or discard. A player
should NOT be reminded several
times in rapid succession. This
causes flooding, and is

** CTCP COMMANDS ***********************************************************
PBot understands some CTCP (Client-To-Client Protocol) messages.
To
access one of these commands, use the IRC command "/ctcp <botname>
<CTCP
command>". For example, to see PBot's version, use "/ctcp
pbot version".
TIME : Returns the date and time at PBot's location
PING : Returns the number of seconds between
you and the bot.
WARNING:
This command does not work with all IRC clients.
VERSION : Returns the current PBot version number under the format
n1.n2.n3
n1: Major version number
n2: Number of commands added/removed since the last
modification of n1
n3: Number of modifications since the last modification of n2
(bug fixes, updates, upgrades, downgrades, etc.)
** PokerBot SERVERS *********************************************************
Frequently, when you log on to IRC, you will be lagged with the
PokerBots. To overcome this problem you may DCC Chat with
Pbot (see DCC
CHAT CONNECTION below) or you may connect directly to the server
that the
bot is using. Pbot and Pbot2 will be on one of three different
servers:
baltimore.md.us.undernet.org
mclean.va.us.undernet.org
dallas.tx.us.undernet.org
Just do a /whois on the bot and then reconnect to the server
that the bot
is on.
** DCC CHAT CONNECTION ******************************************************
You can connect with pbot
using the IRC DCC (Direct Client-to-Client)
Chat function. This cuts down on lag time while playing,
and allows you to
maintain communication during netsplits. Some commands
give a better result
with DCC. All the following examples are set to work with
PBot.
To set up the DCC chat, just
type "/dcc chat pbot", then to send your
messages to the bot, use "/msg =pbot" or "/dmsg pbot" instead
of the usual
"/msg pbot". Since all the bot's public messages are sent
through DCC, you
will surely want to "/ignore PBot public" after making a DCC
connection.
Note that the DCC chat mode
must be used in private message form.
Public bot commands (i.e., p bet) do not go across the DCC chat
connection.
If all of the players in
a game are using DCC chat connections with
PBot, the bot will stop issuing public channel announcements.
This means
that people who are NOT in the game will not see the game in
progress and my
assume that either there is something wrong with the bot, or
that no one is
actually playing. Please try to be nice when this happens,
and let them
know that when they use DCC, they too will see the bot's responses.
If a
player who is not using DCC joins the game, the bot will resume
its public
responses. This all was done because the bot tends to
"get ahead of itself"
when all players are using DCC, and turning off the public responses
helps
to keep the bot from dying of self inflicted jet lag.
SOME IRC CLIENTS CAN'T USE
DCC. Please keep this in mind before
trying to force a player to use DCC.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

** IRC HELP ******************************************************************
For those of you who are
new to IRC there is excellent help
available through the "New to IRC" homepage at:
http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/new2irc.html
You can access the information in a plain text file at:
http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/text/new2irc.txt
or
ftp://ripley.mc.duke.edu/Ripley/pub/irc/new2irc.txt
** FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ************************************************
- "What happens if 6 players discard 4 cards?"
PBot will take all the discarded
cards, reshuffle them, and distribute
them back to the players. It is then
possible that you receive the same
card(s) you discarded.
- "Is A-2-3-4-5 considered a straight?"
Yes. A-2-3-4-5 and
T-J-Q-K-A are both considered straights
However, Q-K-A-2-3 is NOT
considered a straight.
- "I forgot my password. What should I do?"
Ask a COP for help.
If there are no cops around, you can mail
lalb@ozemail.com.au
- "Can I get PBot's source code?"
Yes you can. Send
$100,000 to Pierre Fournier, 1701 Redhead Land,
Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
H1K 2R8. Don't forget a stamped envelope
with your address on it!
Without cash, try with Radix (good luck!).
- "Oh great, I'm banned. What do I do now?"
If you feel that you were banned
without just cause, you may
mail lalb@ozemail.com.au with
your side of the story. You
may ask any poker cop why you
were banned, and how long the ban will
be. If you are still banned
after your ban time has expired, ask a
poker cop to remove your ban.
- "Steph was on the channel and I said something to her, but she didn't
answer me. Does this mean she hates me?"
No! It means I'm distracted.
I do many things with the bots while
on the channel, and answer many /msgs from
people. If I don't answer
you, try sending /msg to get my attention,
as I'm much more likely to
see it that way. I rarely see much channel
chatter.
- "I'm going on vacation for the summer and don't want my account deleted.
How can that be prevented?"
Send e-mail to lalb@ozemail.com.au and ask that the account
be suspended. This will prevent it from
being deleted after 60 days.
Be sure to include your account number and
the poker account nick.
- "What do I have to do to become a poker cop?"
Poker cops are selected by their experience
with channel/user managing,
trust, and a recommendation from here and
there doesn't hurt. If I would
accept all requests, there would be around
100 cops, so I have to reject
*a lot* of requests. Don't feel hated!
:)
- "Are we ever going to see a #poker3... #poker4... #poker138?"
I don't think so.
- "I'm on the channel, but the bot isn't. Should I stay to keep
ops?"
*NO!!*. As soon as you leave your screen,
LEAVE THE CHANNEL. It
may happen that I get on the channel, but
can't start the bot because
someone joined the channel, got ops, and went
to sleep.
- "It said '*** LAST HAND ***'. How long before the bot comes
back?"
99% of the time, it takes less than 1 minute
to upgrade the bot.
If it should take more than 2 minutes, users
are advised.
- "It told me my account is already being used when I tried to join?!"
If the bot dies for some reason while you are playing,
it's highly
possible that it didn't flag your account
has being 'unused'. Find a
poker cop. He/She will correct the problem.
- "How do I get an account?"
Find the key (a word) in this manual.
Once found, use the create
command to make an account. Only one
account per player is allowed.
- "My friend and I both want to play, but we share the same userhost.
The
bot says, 'only one account per userhost.' What
do we do now?"
Send mail to lalb@ozemail.com.au explaining your special
situation. In most cases permission
will be granted to have two
accounts.
- "Darn. My question is not in the FAQ. What to do Lord?
What to do?"
Mail your question to lalb@ozemail.com.au
** POKER CHANNEL RULES *****************************************************
On the poker channels, some actions are obviously not allowed.
These
actions result in a penalty; a ban. When banned, a user cannot
play
on any poker channels for a period of time. Bannable offenses
are:
ANNOYING BEHAVIOR
Ban: 1 day
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If 3 or more users complain about a specific user or site,
that user
or site will be banned for a day. Annoying behavior
includes, but is
not limited to, excessive use of profanity, heated arguments
in the
open channel, purposely delaying the game, etc.
FLOODING THE CHANNEL
Ban: 3 days
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flooding is sending many lines in a short period of time.
A user who
floods voluntarily will be banned for 3 days.
Quickly joining and leaving the channel more than 3 times,
or quickly
changing nick more than 3 times is also considered flooding.
GIVING THE KEYWORD OR ITS LOCATION TO A NEW PLAYER
Ban: 3 days to 1 week
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This should be obvious. Every player is required
to read the manual.
Any player who gives or receives the keyword will be banned.
First
offense 3 days, repeat offenses 1 week.
HAVING MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS
Ban: 3 days to 1 week+
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each player is allowed only 1 account, no matter how many
IRC accounts
you may have. If more than 1 user has the same user@host
address, then
they MUST mail me to get special permission for more than

IMPERSONATING PBOT
Ban: 1 week
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is forbidden to impersonate PBot. There are many
reasons for this,
but I won't go into them here. Just remember that
you are not allowed
to do it. Do not EVER change your nick to PBot.
FLOODING THE BOT WITH A COMMAND
Ban: 1 week
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flooding with a bot command will get you banned for a
week because it
steals process time, and is usually annoying to other
users ("p stat",
"p remind", etc.). *ANY* bot command should be used
ONCE.
There is absolutely no need to use "p remind" 5 times.
AVOIDING A BAN
Ban: +1 week
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A wise user may have more than 1 account, and may come
to play on the
poker channels by avoiding the ban list with another userhost.
If caught,
a banned user stretches his/her ban length by a week,
succesful or not!
MODE CHANGE
Ban: 2 weeks
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Only Poker Cops are allowed to change the modes of the
poker channels.
Any kind of other user, without the approval of a Poker
Cop, who changes
the channel's mode will be punished. If a user locks
up the channel, it
means he doesn't care about playing poker, so he won't
care about being
banned for 2 weeks.
KICKING/KILLING THE POKER BOT
Ban: Unknown
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it's obvious you're not allowed to do that.
*********************
An unknown ban length means 'undefined'. It can
be forever like it can
be for a week. The ban is taken off when I feel
the user has been banned
long enough.
*********************
The length of a ban adds up to the last ban(s) of the
previous 4 months,
if any. For example, if a user is banned 3 days
for flooding, and a month
later floods again, his new 3 day ban will be added to
his old 3 day ban,
which will make him banned for a week (let's forget about
the extra day :)
**********************
I may have forgotten a couple of bannable offenses, but I don't want
you to
come to me saying "Hey! you can't ban me! it was NOT in your list of
rules!".
